Here start the Antilles, a row of lush islands, all with some mountains, some with volcanoes, all with wonderful beaches. A few samples follow:
Here passing near St. John
Tortola
And here approaching St. Martin. On the left (nothern) side, the French part, with a small commuter airport, in a valley, very scenic. On the right (southern) side, the Dutch part, which looks more like the Americanm part (US$, Burger Kings And Kentuck Fries). The French side conserves some French charm (and uses the €!)
very friendly and uncomplicated reception (except for the rain). But beware, once you have passed immigration, you need to go through security and e-migration to get back to the plane. Take everything the first time!
Took a rent-a-car and drove to the Dutch (US?) side. Lots of traffic, just to see a deserted Williamsburg (Dutch "capital"), like Nassau at night, once the cruise ships leave port. Rushed back to the French side, to find lots of food and entertainment at Grand Case, and a very nice beach resort to have a planteur and relax for the next day ....
